SUMMER SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM
-
There are approximately 30 feeding
sites in the city of Baltimore, run by the Baltimore City Public Schools
and the Department of Housing and Management that provide FREE
BREAKFAST AND LUNCH TO SCHOOL CHILDREN. Margaret Brent on 26th
Street and St. Paul will provide these services through August 31. If
you know of any child that needs this service, please direct him/her to
Margaret Brent.
We will have a complete listing of
the other sites available in a few days with contact names and time
schedules so that any child can use the service. There are so many
children in Baltimore who are not eating proper meals through no reason of
their own.
Peabody
Heights annual children’s coat drive
starts early this year.
Last year Peabody Heights Alliance,
with great assistance from Heart’s Place Shelter at St. John’s UM Church
of Baltimore City, was able to collect approximately 200 new and used children’s
coats for distribution to many of the Baltimore City Public Schools.
It was with the help of Dr. Alonso's Mr. Luke Dillon who picked up the
coats from us, along with other PTA Presidents and members of the schools
that successful deliveries were made.
This year we will be again
collecting new and good used children’s coats to provide warmth and
protection for the same three schools and to expand our outreach to other
schools in Baltimore City.
If your child has outgrown their winter coats, hats, gloves,
scarves – or you want to purchase a few new items for the children of our
City – please e-mail us or drop off items at The Book Thing of Baltimore,
Inc., 3001 Vineyard Lane (just west of Greenmount Ave.), Baltimore, MD
21218 (hours: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays - pick up some free
books for yourself while you’re there). The ages of the kids needing coats
range from kindergarten through 8th grade.
Do not be concerned with larger coats as one person asked, because middle
school children can wear large coats.
Please note that Peabody Heights
Resident Homeowners Alliance, Inc. is not a 501(c)3 non-profit so
donations are not tax-deductible but your generosity will go directly to
the school children of Baltimore City, to keep them protected from the
winter elements.
