Eligibility for Membership

[As amended by vote of the membership on December 18, 2001]

(1)To be eligible for membership in the Alliance as a regular member, an individual must -

EITHER

  • Own a home within the prescribed boundaries of Peabody Heights (i.e., from 25th Street north along Maryland Avenue to 29th Street; then east along 29th Street to Charles Street; then north along Charles Street to 31st Street; then east along 31st Street to Guilford Avenue; then south along Guilford Avenue to 25th Street; then west along 25th Street to Maryland Avenue);

  • Reside in that home as the individual's primary residence; and

  • Submit an application for membership along with the required dues;

OR

  • Serve as a supporting member in the Alliance for at least two consecutive years;

  • Reside within the boundaries of Peabody Heights in a dwelling that constitutes the individual's primary residence; and

  • Reapply by submitting an application for regular membership along with the required dues.

(2) To be eligible for membership in the Alliance as a supporting member, an individual must -

  • Reside within the boundaries of Peabody Heights in a dwelling that constitutes the individual's primary residence;

  • Submit an application for membership along with the required dues; and

  • Be approved for membership by a simple majority vote.

 (3) To be eligible for membership in the Alliance as a Friend of the Alliance, an individual must -

  • Reside outside the boundaries of Peabody Heights;

  • Be nominated for membership in this category by a regular or supporting member of the Alliance;

  • Demonstrate, or have demonstrated, a willingness to support the policies and objectives of the Alliance on an ongoing basis either financially or in some other demonstrable way;

  • Submit an application for membership along with the required dues; and

  • Be approved for membership by a simple majority vote.

(4) To be eligible for membership in the Alliance as an honorary member, an individual must -

  • Have been a resident of the area.

  • Have made at least a one-time significant show of support for the goals and objectives of the Alliance;

  • Be nominated for membership in this category by a regular or supporting member of the Alliance; and

  • Be approved for membership by a simple majority vote.


Benefits of Membership

The Alliance provides the means whereby members, by consensus, can use their collective weight, prestige, and voice to effect change for the betterment of resident homeowners by:

    Attending and participating in all relevant City hearings: 

      Zoning

      Liquor Board

      Planning

      Board of Estimates

      City Council

    Notifying all relevant City boards and agencies, the Northern District of the Police Department, adjacent community organizations, Greater Homewood Community Corporation, neighboring institutions of our existence and objectives, thereby availing ourselves of their notification process

    Maintaining a clearing house for all Alliance members for their concerns and/or complaints

    Monitoring and/or addressing validated concerns and issues by:

    Sending timely written notification to those responsible for either causing the problem and/or having the responsibility for correcting said problem

    Sending a duplicate copy to any/all appropriate City/community agencies

    Notifying all City boards and/or agencies in writing of validated issues brought to the attention of the Alliance

    Establishing and charging committees with clear, precise, focused, and limited objectives to:

      Make a study

      Form a position

      Propose an action

        For the purpose of assuring timely responses from the Alliance

    Providing a means/mechanism for a timely source for both the receipt and dissemination of information

      Newsletter

      Postal Mail

      Fax

    Presenting our residential neighborhood in the best possible light to display, to educate, to promote, to advertise, thereby encouraging resident home ownership in our neighborhood


Dues

[As amended by vote of the membership on December 18, 2001]

Membership dues are established as follows:

(1) Regular Member -- $15 for one year

(2) Supporting Member -- $10 for one year

(3) Friend of the Alliance - $5 for one year

(4) Honorary Member - None

An individual's year of membership will begin on the date of payment of dues or approval for membership, as appropriate, and, unless renewed, will expire effective with the anniversary of that date.


Voting Rights

[As established by vote of the membership on December 18, 2001]

(1) Regular Member - After 30 days of membership, full voting rights

(2) Supporting Member - After 30 days of membership, voting rights limited to matters not related to policy or to the election of the Executive Board

Notes: (a) A supporting member who applies for membership as a regular member after serving at least two consecutive years as a supporting member will have full voting rights effective 30 days after becoming a regular member.

(b) When any vote is taken, the individual calling for the vote shall be responsible for announcing whether voting is limited to regular members or whether both regular and supporting members are eligible to vote on the matter at hand.

(3) Friend of the Alliance - No voting rights

(4) Honorary Member - No voting rights


Eligibility to Serve on Boards and Committees of the Alliance

[As established by vote of the membership on December 18, 2001]

(1) Regular Member -- eligible to serve in any capacity on any board or committee of the Alliance

(2) Supporting Member -- eligible to serve as a committee member

(3) Friend of the Alliance - eligible to serve as a committee member

(4) Honorary Member - eligible to serve as a committee member
